Freestyle Swiss Series 2023
The third edition of the SKA Freestyle Swiss Series 2023 on the weekend of 10th -11th June 2023 took place once again in Isleten on the Lake of Uri. During two windy days, Switzerland’s best male and female kitersurfers were crowned in the three freestyle disciplines Twintip, Hydrofoil and Surf Strapless. The championship was a success all along the line: happy kitesurfers, amazed passers-by, waving course boat passengers, satisfied organizers. And above all, two days of wind. This was not entirely coincidental, as the event location was chosen only two days before based on the forecast. The Lake of Uri had the greatest chance of wind compared to the Lakes of Silvaplana and Neuchâtel, both of which were also up for selection.
The runs were judged by a professional jury team, who brought and shared valuable experience and knowledge to the event in Switzerland through many assignments during the official Global Kitesports Association GKA World Tour. The level of the Swiss male and female kiters is definitely worth seeing. Backroll board-off, triple rotations, kiteloops, jumps over 15m high - who wouldn't be amazed?
At the award ceremony on Sunday evening, the 28 participants showed up with beaming faces, but not only because of the countless and generous prizes from the sponsors. The Swiss kitesurfing community had a great weekend of action, sharing their passion and celebrating each other. It is a competition - but the joy of the sport and the togetherness was clearly in the foreground. Giving each other tips, motivating each other to new tricks, spurring each other on to new heights and applauding each other when a trick succeeds - that is the kitesurfing spirit.
